What is School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBIS)? SW-PBIS is comprised of a broad range of systematic and individualized strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing problem behavior with all students. SW-PBIS is not a specific "model" but a combination of interventions, empirical support, and development of individually have been demonstrated to be empirically effective and efficient (OSEP).
SW-PBIS is a school-wide prevention program that uses behavior techniques to provide safe, supportive learning environments, promore positive life skills, and reduce negative behaviors. The SW-PBIS process enables educators, parents, community members to work together to help all students knowing expectatoins and receive necessary supports to develop appropriate behaviors and engage in learning. PBIS strategies also help improve school climate and safety (NASP).
